Chapter 297 Aragog's Funeral
Chapter 297 Aragog's Funeral
Not long after the conversation in Hagrid's hut, Gloria received a letter from Hagrid, saying that the giant eight-eyed spider had died and hoped that she could come to the funeral at dusk. It didn't matter if she didn't have the chance to come out and couldn't make it.
Draco saw the letter and sneered, "Ask you to attend Spider's funeral? He really dared to deliver this letter."
"That Acromantula is very important to him, and he must have a good relationship with me to invite me." Gloria said, "Harry and the others must have been invited as well."
Draco put the letter aside, "There are several Aurors patrolling the castle right now, and Dusk can't go out at all. He loves those monsters enough to let people go out in violation of school rules."
Gloria was lost in thought and said, "The venom of the Acromantula is a good thing, and it's quite rare."
"Spiders gather together. The giant acromantula is large, so it is of course rare. Do you want to get the venom?"
Draco thought about it carefully and realized that he had never seen any spiders near Slytherin Manor.
He asked, “Is it very scarce?”
"No." Gloria shook her head. "I just wanted to give something to Professor Snape. This is a good reason to meet him."
Ever since Voldemort's return, as a Death Eater spy and an opposing party, it's of course not easy for her to have much contact with him. Now it's time to ask about the progress of the potion improvement.
Seeing her say that, Draco changed his words, "Unless I have classes in the afternoon, I can't leave the castle. I haven't been out for a walk for a long time."
Gloria remembered that Draco was not invited in the letter, but since he was invited, it wouldn't be a bad idea to bring one more person to pay tribute to Spider.
"How's your Disillusionment Charm? It won't be hard to get out by carefully avoiding the Aurors."
Draco said, "No problem, I can do it successfully."
By the evening, the Slytherins knew that they would not return to the common room immediately after dinner, so they could stay there quietly until dusk.
When they went out and saw the sunset, Gloria and Draco cast spells respectively and walked out of the secret room quietly.
I saw Aurors passing by on the road. Fortunately, their Disillusionment Charm was successful. I stood in the corridor and waited for a while, and the two Aurors walked away.
After they left the castle smoothly, Draco held her hand and said, "I haven't been out and about for a long time. I feel like I've almost forgotten what the Whomping Willow looks like."
The Whomping Willow in the distance twisted its branches from time to time.
By the time they reached Hagrid's hut, the afterglow had almost disappeared and the night sky was dotted with stars.
The light was on in Hagrid's room. Gloria went over and knocked on the door twice. Hagrid was crying hard, his eyes were red and swollen, and he was still crying when he opened the door.
"Leah, I can't believe you're really here, and..." And you brought a nasty little devil with you.
"Sorry Hagrid, Draco got worried and followed us here, so we just happened to be attending the funeral together."
Seeing Gloria's attitude, the sad Hagrid naturally didn't complain, "It's okay, Aragog won't mind."
Draco tried to hold back. The spider was dead, so what could he care about?
After entering the door, Gloria asked, "How are you going to hold a funeral for Aragog?"
Hagrid wiped his eyes with a floral handkerchief and pointed his thumb at the rear window. "I'm going to bury him in the pumpkin patch. From now on, every pumpkin will be a part of him."
After hearing these words, Draco vowed never to touch any pumpkin-related food at Hogwarts again.
Gloria looked calm, "Then you can see him anytime from now on, which is better than being eaten by other spiders."
"Oh..." Hagrid began to cry again, and said while crying: "I went to pick him up a few days ago. He was already very sick. Only then did I know that it was his order that the other spiders did not eat me. He has been protecting me and allowing me to walk freely in the Forbidden Forest. From now on..."
Draco frowned tightly, not knowing how long he would cry.
Gloria said: "Will the spiders elect a new king? I can go and negotiate with them. You can still walk around the Forbidden Forest in the future."
Hagrid stopped his horn-like cry, "I don't know. I can't get close now... Forget it, I'll just move at the edge of the Forbidden Forest. The descendants of Aragog dare not get close to here."
Not long after crying, there was another knock on the door. Hagrid stood up and walked over quickly, "It must be Harry and the others."
After opening the door, Harry pulled back the invisibility cloak, with Hermione beside him.
"Hagrid, we thought about it and decided to come." Harry said, "It's just that Ron was entangled with his girlfriend, so only Hermione and I came here."
In fact, they didn't plan to come at first, but during the daytime class, they found out that Gloria decided to go.
Hagrid was obviously closer to them, but Gloria went there but they didn't. What would Hagrid think?
"It's okay, you two are already fine, and it just so happens that Liador brought a Malfoy here."
Harry and Hermione came in and saw Gloria and Draco standing near the back door.
When everyone was gathered, the five of them went out the back door.
In the pumpkin field lay the giant eight-eyed spider with its belly facing up, its eight long legs covered with black hair, and its large curved claws like the sharp teeth of a monster.
Seeing the spider's corpse, Hagrid started crying again, and his tall body shook with crying.
Hermione didn't know what to say, and Harry could only watch.
Gloria stared at the claws and said, "Hagrid, can I get some of Aragog's venom as a souvenir? The venom of the Acromantula is not common, especially for such a long-lived Acromantula."
Harry and Hermione looked at her in astonishment. Taking venom could be considered keeping a souvenir.
"Okay, hearing what you said, I also want to keep some memories..." Hagrid looked at the spider and finally shook his head, "Forget it, let's bury him intact."
Gloria took out two bottles of medicine that had been prepared long ago and filled them up before returning.
She looked at Hagrid and said, "Anything else you'd like to say to Aragog?"
Hagrid forced himself to open his red and swollen eyes and said, "I hatched him and raised him to adulthood, and he found a wife and had a large family. I may never have such a close friend again. I hope that after he dies, he will become a ghost and continue to live happily in the world of the dead."
After saying that, the tall body fell down and continued to cry on the ground.
Harry and Hermione hurried over to him and tried to pull him up, but Gloria pulled out her wand.
"May you rest in peace, Aragog."
With a wave of the magic wand, the giant eight-eyed spider fell into the pit. Mud flew into the pit like a rain curtain, burying the spider tightly.
Hagrid eventually got up on his own and went back to his cabin to continue being sad.
But not long after, there was another knock on the door.
"Hagrid, open the door. We'll hide first."
Gloria and Draco had already cast the Disillusionment Charm, and Harry took Hermione and hid under the Invisibility Cloak.
When he opened the door he heard Slughorn's voice, "Dear Hagrid, I see..."
His voice stopped abruptly when he saw Hagrid's appearance, "Oh - I disturbed you."
"No, I just finished a funeral," Hagrid said. "The funeral of an old friend."
Slughorn said, "That's a very sad story. Would you like a drink? I have quite a few fine bottles in my office. Perhaps you could chat with me about all sorts of magical creatures."
