Chapter 112 The real traitor
Chapter 112 The real traitor
Based on this information, Gloria can almost piece together the truth of what happened back then!
It was not Sirius who betrayed the Potters, but another of their friends, Peter Pettigrew.
"Harry, you may not believe it now, but everyone has misunderstood Sirius." Gloria walked quickly downstairs.
Ron's rat disappeared, leaving only a trace of blood. Harry still saw his name on the map, which meant that he was not dead. But was he still in school?
"What's the misunderstanding?" Harry was anxious, "Explain it to me clearly!"
Gloria asked, "Professor Lupin took your map, didn't he?"
Harry nodded hurriedly, "Yes, after helping me to cover up my lie, I went to his office."
"Let's go there and get the map." Gloria quickened her pace. "Harry, you read it right. Peter Pettigrew is not dead. He did pass by you in the corridor that night. It's just that he was too young at the time, so you didn't know."
She had to find the map as soon as possible so that if he was still in school, she could catch him immediately.
"Too small?" Harry was confused.
"Animagus, Harry!" Gloria reminded him, "Professor McGonagall has shown that Peter Pettigrew is an illegal Animagus. He has always been by your side, the rat that Ron had! How could you notice if there was a rat passing under your feet in the corridor at night?"
Gloria looked serious, "Harry, Sirius wasn't looking for you, he was looking for Pedaloo. During the summer vacation, Fudge went to Azkaban to see Sirius with a newspaper. He must have seen the mouse in the report about the Weasleys winning the lottery. They used to be friends, so he recognized it! He went to the dormitory at the Halloween party because he wanted to find the mouse when no one was around. He also stood by Ron's bed that night, but Pedaloo had disappeared long ago."
It was like a sledgehammer hitting Harry's head, making him dizzy. Didn't Sirius want to kill him?
Ron's mouse turned out to be Peter Pettigrew.
It sounded incredible, but Harry knew that this truth could explain Sirius's previous strange behavior.
Although his mind was confused, he kept pace. Many people were having dinner in the auditorium. He didn't meet many students from the west tower to the third floor of the castle.
There was no one in Professor Lupin's office, he should be in the auditorium.
Looking at the dazed Harry, Gloria shouted, "Hurry up and find that map!"
The two searched the office, in drawers, book compartments on the desk, and even in the suitcase.
"I found it!" Harry found the Marauder's Map from the bottom drawer of his desk, pointed his wand at the map and read: "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."
In an instant, thin ink lines slowly unfolded like a spider web, connecting and interweaving to every corner of the parchment.
The many black dots above showed that most people were in the auditorium, a few students were in the corridor, and I looked carefully at places outside the auditorium.
Gloria pointed to the sign for Hagrid's hut, "Here, Peter Pettigrew."
Hagrid and his family were dining in the Great Hall, and only Peter's name was visible in the room.
Harry looked carefully and saw that it was indeed the name. He stayed in one spot without moving, "How could it be..."
People who are clearly dead still appear on the map.
"Harry, he's not dead. He's been hiding in the Weasley family as a mouse. He's been with you in school for nearly three years." Gloria held up the map. "We have to act quickly."
"But the newspaper said that he was a hero. In order to hunt down Sirius..."
"Do you really believe it?" Gloria interrupted him, "A hero needs to hide for twelve years? Sirius was caught after the Muggle street bombing. He could have come back, but he didn't!"
Harry couldn't say anything to refute, so he followed her steps, "Then let's go outside and ask him in person."
Gloria felt that they were really taking too many risks and had no intention of informing the professor. However, she was also afraid that something might happen if she was too late, so she decided to catch the problem as soon as possible.
As they were deliberately trying to bypass the auditorium, they heard a familiar argument.
"It's Hermione," Harry recognized one of the voices.
Gloria heard Draco's voice and walked closer to see that it was indeed him, "Draco?"
The boy turned around and saw her and breathed a sigh of relief, "Where have you been? I haven't been waiting for you in the auditorium. Didn't you say you were only delivering letters?"
"Something happened." Gloria grabbed his hand, "Since it happened, let's go together."
Several students came out of the auditorium, and only their backs were seen.
Hermione and Ron's anger immediately subsided, and Ron stepped forward and asked, "What are you doing together?"
"Go catch mice in Hagrid's hut." Gloria said in a light voice.
"School rules state that we cannot leave the castle unless it is necessary for class." Hermione still remembered the school rules, "We will be deducted points if we are caught!"
Draco ignored their commotion, "I'll follow you."
"Rat?" Ron thought of his pet. "Is it Scabbers? Have you seen him?"
"Yeah." Gloria snorted and laughed, "What a big rat. Ron, how old is your rat?"
"Uh... Percy has had it since he started school." Ron tried to recall Scabbers, "He gave it to me when I came to school in his fifth year."
Draco glanced at him. "Can mice from poor families survive this well?"
He didn't know much about pets, but the average lifespan of a mouse was about three years.
Harry's heart was growing heavier. Percy had given Scabbers to Ron in fifth grade, and he had lived for at least seven years. How could a mouse without magic live so long?
"As I remember, Scabbers doesn't have any magic, it's just an ordinary mouse." Hermione noticed something was wrong. "According to common sense, it would have been too old when Percy was in the third or fourth year, and it wouldn't have lived long enough for Ron to enter school."
Ron grimaced. "It's dead, isn't it? Your cat—"
Hermione had apologized for that, and he didn't want to dwell on it.
"He's not dead," said Gloria. "He's in Hagrid's room right now."
"I saw blood!" Ron stressed, then trailed off, "And Crookshanks' hair."
Gloria looked back at Ron, "It's an old trick of his."
"Trick?" Ron didn't understand, but Gloria was walking very fast and he had to follow closely.
Draco felt strange. Why did Gloria keep talking about him? Wasn't he a rat?
When they were almost at the entrance of the castle, Filch was holding Mrs. Norris to guard the door. Gloria asked them to hide aside and walked over by herself. Draco wanted to stop them but it was too late.
Filch stepped forward immediately when he saw Gloria walking towards him. However, he had a good impression of Gloria, so his tone was not as blunt as it was to Harry and the others. "Why are you here? The school has rules that students cannot leave the castle at will."
The last time Sirius broke into the dormitory, the school tightened its control over students' movements.
Gloria glanced at Mrs. Norris in Filch's arms and said, "I'm so sorry, Mr. Filch, I have to go out for something urgent." She pulled out her wand and tapped it at the person, "Confundus."
Filch, who originally had bright eyes, hugged Mrs. Norris and laughed twice, then became dazed as if he had lost his soul.
"go!"
Gloria put away her wand and walked out the door. Draco came to his senses and followed her immediately. Harry and the others walked around the stunned Mr. Filch in amazement.
