Chapter 25: Deepening Feelings
Chapter 25: Deepening Feelings
Yunxi had been living in peace and quiet in the Marquis's mansion for the past few days. Because of the prince's prestige, even though the Marquis's wife and Lin Jiao were filled with resentment, they didn't dare to openly cause trouble for her.
One day, Yunxi was squatting in her small courtyard, with her sleeves rolled up, carefully sorting a pile of herbs.
The sun shone on her, reflecting the sweat on her forehead. At this moment, Xiao Cui rushed in, running so fast that she almost fell over.
"Miss, Miss!" Xiao Cui panted and shouted, "The prince sent someone to invite you to the palace for a chat!"
After hearing this, Yunxi paused for a moment, her body startled slightly, a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure, but a ripple arose in her heart.
She opened her red lips slightly and said, "Don't panic, don't panic, go and get ready."
Soon, Yunxi got on the carriage. Along the way, her heart was in turmoil, not knowing whether this trip would be a good one or a bad one.
Arriving at the palace, as soon as I stepped out of the carriage, I saw the prince striding towards me. He was wearing a moon-white robe with a blue belt around his waist, which made him look even more tall and straight.
"Miss Yunxi, I haven't seen you for many days. I miss you very much." The prince's eyes fell directly on Yunxi, and his eyes were so gentle that tears could drip out.
Yunxi felt a little embarrassed by his gaze, lowered her head, and a blush appeared on her face: "Your Highness, please forgive me for making fun of you."
The prince brought Yunxi to the garden.
As soon as she entered the garden, Yunxi's eyes lit up. The prince looked at her and couldn't help but smile.
The flowers in this garden are in full bloom, red, pink, and purple, crowded together, competing for splendor.
The prince was dressed in gorgeous clothes and stood tall beside Yunxi. He raised his hand to signal Yunxi to look here and there.
"Yunxi, look at these crabapples, they are blooming so vigorously." The prince said, pointing to a bunch of crabapples.
Yunxi leaned over, examined it carefully, and replied with a smile, "Your Highness, this crabapple tree is truly beautiful. The flowers are full and the colors are vibrant."
The prince laughed heartily a few times, then pulled Yunxi forward again.
"Don't be fooled by the small size of this jasmine plant. Its fragrance is very charming." The prince said as he leaned over to sniff it.
Yunxi also sniffed it and nodded gently: "Yeah, it smells good, very refreshing."
The two walked slowly along the path. The prince enthusiastically introduced various flowers to Yunxi, while Yunxi listened attentively, occasionally interjecting a few words.
"This rose took me a lot of effort to grow into such a beautiful rose." The prince reached out and touched the petals.
Yunxi looked at the prince, her eyes full of smiles: "The prince really puts a lot of effort into this garden."
As he was speaking, a light rain suddenly began to fall from the sky. The prince frowned and quickly pulled Yunxi towards the pavilion.
Running to the pavilion, the prince shook the raindrops off his sleeves and muttered, "This rain, it just rains when it says it will."
Yunxi stood aside, wiped her face with a handkerchief, and said with a smile: "Your Highness, it's okay, the rain scene is also nice."
The prince looked at Yunxi and nodded: "You are quite open-minded."
The rain was getting heavier, pattering around the pavilion. The two sat facing each other in the pavilion, and the atmosphere was a little quiet for a while.
The prince's eyes were always on Yunxi. Yunxi felt a little uncomfortable being stared at. She fiddled with the corner of her clothes and lowered her head slightly.
"Yunxi, I have something to say to you." The prince suddenly broke the silence.
Yunxi raised her head, with doubt in her eyes: "Your Highness, please speak."
The prince took a deep breath and said, "Ever since I met you, I have often thought of you in my heart. Your bravery, kindness, and intelligence have all moved me deeply."
Yunxi's face turned even redder, and her heartbeat quickened: "Prince..."
The prince stood up and strode towards Yunxi. He grabbed her hand with great strength, as if he was afraid that Yunxi would run away.
"Yunxi, I am willing to protect you all your life. What do you think?" The prince stared at Yunxi with eagerness and expectation in his eyes.
Yunxi looked at the prince's eyes that were so affectionate that they could melt anyone's heart, nodded gently, and said in a voice as soft as a mosquito: "Yunxi is willing."
Just then, the rain stopped and the sun shone through the clouds.
The prince and Yunxi smiled at each other, their smiles as bright as the warm spring sun, as if they were the only two people left in the world.
From then on, the prince and Yunxi met more and more frequently.
On this day, Yunxi received an invitation from the prince to go for an outing in the suburbs.
The grass outside was green and almost reached people's knees. The stream was gurgling and so clear that one could see the sand and rocks at the bottom.
The prince was dressed in a green robe with a white jade pendant tied around his waist, walking upright beside Yunxi. Yunxi, on the other hand, was dressed in a pink dress, with her hair tied up in a simple bun and a jade hairpin inserted in it. She looked elegant and charming.
The prince and Yunxi walked side by side by the stream, and the breeze blew, ruffling the corners of their clothes.
"Yunxi, look how beautiful that butterfly is." The prince raised his hand and pointed at a colorful butterfly, his eyes revealing a childlike excitement.
Yunxi looked in the direction of the prince's finger, the corners of her mouth raised, revealing two dimples: "It is indeed beautiful."
As he walked, Yunxi was so focused on looking at the scenery that he accidentally stepped on a stone and fell sideways.
The prince was quick to catch her, holding her tightly around his waist with his arms, and yelled, "Be careful!"
Yunxi leaned in the prince's arms and could feel his heartbeat, thump thump. Her face suddenly turned red to her neck and her heart beat faster.
"Thank you, Your Highness." Yunxi lowered her head, not daring to look into the prince's eyes.
The prince let go of his hand, looked Yunxi up and down, and asked anxiously: "How is it? Are you hurt?"
Yunxi blushed and shook her head: "Your Highness, I'm fine."
The prince finally breathed a sigh of relief, took Yunxi's hand and continued walking forward, saying as he walked: "This road is not easy to walk on, you have to follow me closely."
Yunxi said "hmm" softly and followed the prince obediently.
After walking for a while, Yunxi saw a wild flower by the roadside and couldn't help wanting to pick it. When the prince saw it, he quickly said, "Stand still, I'll pick it for you."
As he said this, he bent down, carefully picked the flower and handed it to Yunxi.
Yunxi took the flower, smelled it, and said with a smile, "It smells so good."
The prince looked at Yunxi's happy expression and started laughing too.
After walking for a while, Yunxi felt a little tired and slowed down. The prince immediately noticed it, stopped and said, "How about we find a place to rest?"
Yunxi nodded, and the two of them sat down under a big tree.
The prince took out a handkerchief from his bosom and handed it to Yunxi: "Wipe the sweat off your face."
Yunxi took the handkerchief and felt warm in her heart.
After resting for a while, the prince stood up, brushed off the dirt on his body, and said, "Let's go. There may be better scenery ahead."
Yunxi also stood up and continued walking forward with the prince.
As they were walking, they suddenly heard a bird chirping. The prince looked up and pointed at the tree and said, "Yunxi, look at that bird's nest."
Yunxi looked in the direction the prince pointed and saw a small bird's nest on a branch.
The prince smiled and said, "Maybe there are birds in there."
Yunxi said, "Then don't disturb them."
The prince nodded: "Of course."
The two of them walked and talked, and before they knew it, the sun was about to set.
The prince looked at the sunset in the sky and said to Yunxi, "Yunxi, I am very happy to go on an outing with you today."
Yunxi blushed and said, "Yunxi too."
The prince took Yunxi's hand and said, "Then let's come back another day."
Yunxi nodded slightly and followed the prince back.
The prince looked at Yunxi, his eyes full of concern: "Are you hurt?"
Yunxi shook her head: "As long as the prince is here, Yunxi will be fine."
The two continued walking until they came to a forest. The prince looked around the forest and said to Yunxi, "Yunxi, wait here for a moment while I go hunt some game."
After saying this, he tightened the bow and arrow in his hand and strode into the woods. His posture revealed a sense of decisiveness and agility.
Yunxi nodded obediently, found a big tree, sat under it, folded her hands on her knees, and followed the prince's back closely with her eyes.
After a while, Yunxi heard the sound of bowstrings coming from the woods, and her heart began to tighten.
Not long after, the prince returned with a few wild rabbits. Beads of sweat hung on his forehead, but a smug smile spread across his face. "Yunxi, we can have a delicious meal tonight."
Yunxi looked at the hare in the prince's hand, her eyes sparkling, and said with a smile: "Prince, you are very skilled."
Back at the palace, the prince rolled up his sleeves and prepared to personally go to the kitchen to roast rabbit meat for Yunxi. Yunxi was also not hesitant and helped pass things around.
The prince kept muttering as he worked, "This roasted rabbit meat needs to be cooked at the right temperature." Yunxi agreed, "Yes, it's all up to you, Your Highness."
The two of them chatted with each other, and laughter came from the kitchen from time to time. The atmosphere was so warm that it made people feel that life should go on like this.
As they spent time together, Yunxi and the prince's relationship grew deeper and deeper. When Yunxi looked at the prince, her eyes were filled with unconcealable joy and dependence; the prince also took great care of Yunxi and thought of her in everything.
However, their sweetness did not last long.
One day, Yunxi was sewing in her room when she suddenly received a mysterious letter. She unfolded the letter, took a glance, and her face turned pale. Her hand trembled, and the letter fell to the ground.
She didn't care about anything else, just picked up her skirt and ran out.
When Yunxi arrived at the prince's place, she saw him lying on the bed, his face as pale as paper and his lips bloodless.
Yunxi rushed to the bedside, her voice filled with tears: "Prince, how are you?"
When the prince heard Yunxi's voice, he opened his eyes with great effort and forced a smile: "Yunxi, don't worry, I'm fine."
Yunxi looked at the prince's wound and couldn't help but shed tears: "It's all my fault. I failed to protect the prince."
The prince quickly reached out his hand and gently wiped away Yunxi's tears, saying softly, "It's not your fault. It was my carelessness."
Yunxi's big watery eyes were full of self-blame. She bit her lips tightly and her hands trembled slightly.
The prince looked distressed and held her hand, comforting her: "Don't cry, don't cry, I'm fine."
In the following days, Yunxi was very busy. She got up before dawn every day and carefully changed the dressing for the prince.
Her brows were furrowed, her eyes fixed on the wound, and her movements were gentle as if she was treating a rare treasure.
While the medicine was being boiled, she stood by the stove, not daring to relax for a moment, and didn't care even if her face was blackened by the smoke.
The prince was moved by Yunxi's busy figure. Once, he couldn't help but say, "Yunxi, when I recover from my injury, I will definitely repay you."
Yunxi smiled slightly, revealing two shallow dimples, and said, "As long as the prince can get better, it will be the best reward for Yunxi."
In this way, the days passed by under Yunxi's careful care. The prince's injuries gradually improved and he was able to walk again.
Yunxi was happy to see that the prince could move, but she couldn't help but remind him, "Prince, please don't move around. Your wound hasn't healed completely yet."
The prince, however, paced back and forth in the room deliberately like a child, saying, "I am almost well now."
Yunxi couldn't do anything about him and could only follow behind, fearing that he might make a mistake.
Finally, the prince recovered completely. On this day, the sun was shining brightly, and the prince took Yunxi to the top of the mountain.
The prince was dressed in a green robe, his posture was straight and tall. He opened his arms and said loudly: "Yunxi, look at this beautiful scenery of mountains and rivers. From now on, I will appreciate it with you."
Yunxi, wearing a pink Luo skirt, stood beside the prince, with a happy smile on her face, and said softly: "Yes, Prince."
A gentle breeze blew past, ruffling her hair and adding a touch of softness to her beauty. The prince took Yunxi into his arms, and Yunxi leaned against him: "Yunxi is willing to spend her life with you, prince."
