Chapter 626: Fake
Chapter 626: Fake
After all, they were among Adriana’s strongest supporters.
As long as he eliminated one problem at a time, eventually everyone around Aurora would collapse.
With that thought in mind, Nate immediately ordered his subordinates to begin attacking the Richardson family behind the scenes.
Although the institute repeatedly failed to implement successful plotlines around Aurora and her close circle, it did not mean they lacked other pawns.
In fact, many individuals throughout society still carried the institute’s mysterious chips within them. Some of those people controlled massive corporations worth billions.
Others possessed enormous political or social influence.
Thus, the institute activated those hidden pawns simultaneously and assigned them a single mission.
Boycott the Richardson family completely.
Inside a luxurious mansion glowing beneath golden chandeliers, a woman named Pan Minji smiled smugly after receiving the mission.
"I’ll handle it," she murmured confidently.
She slowly walked toward her billionaire husband, Gavin, who was relaxing on the couch while reviewing documents.
Gavin immediately smiled warmly at her. His eyes softened with obvious love and obsession.
"Baby," he said gently, "what do you want this time?"
Pan Minji chuckled softly. "You always know how to please me."
She leaned against him from behind before speaking in a slightly trembling voice.
"Do you remember my ex-boyfriend? The one who treated me horribly?"
The moment she mentioned another man, a trace of jealousy instantly appeared in Gavin’s eyes.
"Yes," he replied quietly. "I remember him."
Pan Minji lowered her gaze sadly before speaking again.
"That ex suddenly contacted me again recently..." she whispered softly. "And ever since then, he has been acting completely insane. Richardson... he’s trying to coerce me."
The moment Pan Minji uttered those words, a trace of cold anger immediately surfaced in Gavin’s eyes.
"Show me the messages," he said coldly. "I’ll make that bastard understand exactly whose woman you’ve become."
Pan Minji let out a soft chuckle before gently shaking her head.
"That’s not possible anymore," she replied calmly. "He already retracted all the messages afterward, but he was extremely arrogant about it. He acted as though nobody in this world could ever ruin him again."
As she spoke, she slowly wrapped her arms around Gavin’s neck and leaned closer toward him.
"Baby..." she whispered softly beside his ear, "I want you to boycott the Richardson family for me."
The moment those words left her mouth, a subtle hesitation flashed across Gavin’s face.
After all, rumors had long circulated throughout the business world that the Richardson family was secretly backed by Ms. Dawn.
That very rumor was precisely why many powerful corporations, despite wanting to suppress the Richardson family completely, had never dared to move openly against them.
Seeing the hesitation in his eyes, Pan Minji lowered her gaze slightly, pretending to feel hurt.
"If you don’t want to help me," she murmured sadly, "then forget it. I won’t force you."
With that, she slowly stood up and prepared to leave.
The moment Gavin saw her expression, panic instantly surged through him.
"Wait, wait!" he called out hurriedly. "I’ll do it!"
Hearing his answer, Pan Minji immediately smiled brightly.
"I knew my baby was the best," she said sweetly.
She leaned down and planted a soft kiss against his cheek before smiling smugly to herself.
Meanwhile, the exact same situation was occurring throughout countless other places.
Middle-aged women manipulated their wealthy husbands.
Young men implanted with mysterious chips used emotional tactics against influential family members.
Even elderly businessmen began acting strangely, almost as if invisible strings were controlling their thoughts.
It could be said that only Aurora’s family possessed some level of resistance against these terrifying plotlines.
As for ordinary humans who remained completely unguarded, they unknowingly became victims of endless manipulation.
One after another, various hidden schemes quietly unfolded.
The next morning, an enormous wave of boycott movements suddenly erupted within the underground currents of the business world.
Without warning, countless corporations began secretly withdrawing contracts from the Richardson family.
At first, the Richardsons did not think too much about it.
They arrogantly assumed that some competitors were merely attempting dirty business tactics. In response, they confidently blacklisted those companies while accepting the penalties from broken contracts.
However, as the days passed, the situation became increasingly horrifying.
Their clients rapidly decreased until only around ten remained.
That was when true panic finally set in.
Inside the Richardson Corporation headquarters, the atmosphere had become suffocatingly tense.
Mr. Richardson sat inside his office with an ugly expression on his face as he desperately contacted old friends and business partners for answers.
Most of them avoided him completely. Some even hung up immediately.
Finally, one of his longtime friends, Mr. Blacksmith, agreed to meet him privately.
Mr. Blacksmith patted Mr. Richardson’s shoulder heavily before sighing.
"I won’t say much," he muttered quietly. "But I can tell you one thing. Your youngest son, Peter Richardson, is the reason your family is being boycotted."
Hearing those words, Mr. Richardson frowned deeply.
"How is that possible?" he asked immediately. "Peter is backed by Ms. Dawn herself. Ms. Dawn personally met with me before and even promised to protect the Richardson Corporation."
Mr. Blacksmith slowly shook his head.
"According to the information I received," he replied cautiously, "the Ms. Dawn you met may have been a fake all along."
The moment those words entered his ears, Mr. Richardson’s face turned pale.
"That’s impossible," he muttered in disbelief. "Ms. Dawn is closely connected to my daughter-in-law. How could she possibly be fake?"
However, Mr. Blacksmith did not continue the discussion.
Instead, he simply sighed before quietly leaving.
After he departed, a trace of doubt slowly began forming deep inside Mr. Richardson’s heart.
Still, he did not immediately confront anyone.
Instead, he decided to speak privately with Peter first and determine whether the situation could still be salvaged.
That evening, the moment Peter returned home, he was immediately summoned into Mr. Richardson’s study.
Mr. Richardson wasted no time and directly explained the entire situation.
After listening carefully, Peter frowned.
"I haven’t done anything wrong," he said firmly. "I genuinely don’t understand why I’m suddenly being targeted like this."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"However, since the matter is somehow connected to me, I’ll personally handle it and try to stabilize the business situation."
From that moment onward, Peter completely devoted himself to work.
Day and night, he remained buried beneath endless documents, meetings, and phone calls. Dark circles slowly formed beneath his eyes while exhaustion gradually consumed him.
Even Adriana began noticing that Peter barely had any time left for himself anymore.
Yet despite everything, she never once threw a tantrum.
Deep inside, Adriana possessed an incredibly steady and gentle nature.
Sometimes she quietly brought him warm meals late at night. Sometimes she stood behind him silently and massaged his stiff shoulders after long meetings.
They were only small gestures, but every single one of them made Peter’s heart ache with warmth.
One evening, while Adriana carefully adjusted the blanket around him as he worked on the couch, Peter suddenly grabbed her hand gently.
"You really don’t need to do so much for me," he said softly while looking at her tired expression. "You’re exhausted too."
Hearing those words, Adriana simply smiled warmly.
"I want to do things for the people I love," she replied gently.
Peter’s eyes softened immediately.
"I seriously have the best girlfriend in this entire world," he murmured affectionately.
Adriana chuckled softly before correcting him.
"Fiancée," she whispered teasingly.
With that, she leaned forward and kissed his cheek lightly.
However, just as she pulled away, a sudden knock echoed loudly against the office door.
Adriana immediately walked over and opened it.
Standing outside was Mr. Richardson himself, and his expression looked frighteningly furious.
"What are you doing inside the office room?" he shouted angrily.
The sudden harshness in his voice shocked Adriana completely.
Before she could even react, Peter immediately stood up and walked toward her protectively. He gently pulled Adriana behind him before facing his father directly.
"Father," Peter said with visible displeasure, "why are you speaking to her like that?"
Mr. Richardson let out an angry scoff.
"Don’t you want to know why our family is being targeted?" he snapped. "It’s because of this girl!"
As he pointed directly toward Adriana, she tilted her head slightly in confusion, unable to understand what was happening.
Mr. Richardson then turned back toward Peter.
"Come speak with me privately," he ordered coldly. "There’s something important we need to discuss."
With that, he turned around and left immediately.
Peter sighed softly before looking back at Adriana.
"I’ll go talk to him," he reassured gently.
However, Adriana quickly stopped him by grabbing his sleeve lightly.
"Please tell me what’s happening," she said worriedly. "And if this situation is truly related to me somehow... then I’ll fix it."
At first, Adriana assumed someone had discovered Aurora’s hidden identity and was now targeting Peter’s company because of it.
If that truly was the case, then she fully intended to use every connection she possessed in order to help Peter.
Not once did she blame Aurora.
