Chapter 260 260: No matter where you look, fools shall forever remain.
"Of course," Su Ping nodded, his smile growing even wider as he watched the young heir fall neatly into the trap.
To him, this young nobleman was truly amusing, a creature of such predictable pride that he was almost an expert of his class.
"Yu An..." Su Ping said but one name.
The moment the name left his lips, the earth beneath their feet trembled.
Some of the soldiers, caught off guard by the sudden instability, stumbled and almost lost their footing, their armor clanking loudly as they fought to remain upright.
"What's that?! Where is it coming from?" a scout yelled, his voice rising in alarm as he scanned the horizon.
"Crap! Look there! It's heading right for us!" another soldier shouted, pointing a shaking finger toward the dense, immobile ranks of the undead army that had been standing like statues at the edge of the fog.
From within the heart of the zombie horde, a blurred figure suddenly erupted into the air, leaping with a strength that defied human limits.
The silhouette soared over the heads of the corpses and soldier's maintaining the last line of defense.
BAM!!
The earth shook once more as the figure landed with explosive force right beside Su Ping.
The impact cracked the cobblestones beneath her feet, sending a cloud of dust and grit into the air.
As the haze cleared, the Montgomery soldiers saw an armoured woman in a deep kneeling posture, her head bowed in a gesture of absolute devotion.
"You called, Master?" Yu An asked the moment she landed. Her voice was calm and melodic, yet it carried an underlying tremor of power that made the hair on the soldiers' necks stand on end.
She remained perfectly still, her eyes closed as she waited for her instructions.
"Yes. It would appear our enemy is a bit unwilling to accept the reality of their defeat," Su Ping said, his voice cold and devoid of any warmth.
He gestured toward the group of knights standing before them. "So, why don't you beat the truth into them? Make sure they are all properly content as they prepare for their journey into the afterlife."
"As you wish, Master," Yu An replied.
The moment she opened her eyes to gaze upon the soldiers surrounding Henry, as well as Godfrey and the young heir himself, a great, paralyzing chill filled their hearts.
Her eyes were not those of a normal human; they held a predatory, focused light that seemed to strip away their defenses and see through to their very marrow.
In that single look, the Montgomery men realized that they weren't looking at a simple subordinate, but a weapon of mass destruction given human form.
The air in the square grew heavy and for the first time since the battle began, even Henry felt a cold, sinking sensation in the pit of his stomach that no amount of pride could ignore.
*******
Moments later, Yu An calmly walked back to Su Ping's side with a steady, unhurried gait, her footsteps leaving sticky, dark impressions upon the uneven cobblestones of the square.
Her entire suit of armor, which had once shimmered with a dull metallic sheen, was now completely drenched in a thick coating of blood that appeared almost black in the twilight.
Her gauntlets were the most heavily stained, the liquid gathering at the tips of her iron fingers and dripping onto the earth.
"I've done as you asked, Master," Yu An stated.
" Well done."
Su Ping offered a slow, appreciative nod, his gaze sweeping across the area that had served as the last remaining stronghold for the Montgomery soldiers.
The scene was no longer recognizable as a military encampment; instead, it had been transformed into a horrid gallery of splattered blood, shattered bone, and shredded entrails that decorated the walls of the nearby tents.
While Henry and Sir Godfrey had been capable Tier 3 individuals, backed by several other high-ranking officers within their personal guard, they had been fundamentally outmatched from the very beginning of the engagement.
Compared to Yu An, who stood at the absolute peak of Tier 3 and was essentially half a step into the realm of Tier 4, their human limitations were obvious.
Furthermore, Yu An was a beast, and in this world, it was common knowledge that beasts possessed a raw physical power and a primal ferocity that far exceeded that of even the most well-trained humans.
To Su Ping, it was not a surprise in the slightest that their feeble, arrogant army had crumbled into nothingness before her relentless assault; it was simply the logical conclusion of a predator encountering prey that had forgotten its place in the food chain.
[Dark Tentacle]
With a simple thought, a dark, writhing tentacle emerged from a deep patch of shadow near the edge of the square.
It moved with movements similar to a serpent, lashing out to wrap around a specific object resting near a pile of debris.
The tentacle coiled tightly around a decapitated head and hoisted it into the air, bringing it directly to Su Ping's eye level so he could inspect his prize.
Su Ping glanced at the head, noting the expression of absolute, soul-crushing terror that was permanently etched onto the dead features.
It was a face he recognized well, the face of Henry, the proud heir of the Montgomery household, captured in the final, agonizing moment before his life had been snuffed out.
The eyes were still wide, staring into a void they could no longer see, and the mouth was frozen in a silent scream that would never again utter a boastful threat.
"Have someone preserve this," Su Ping commanded, his voice cold and devoid of any lingering sentiment.
"We'll be taking it back with us when we depart this place."
The dark tentacle handed the gruesome trophy over to Yu An.
' This should help Nebula get over her deep-seated resentment, and more importantly, it will facilitate my plans for the region going forward...' he mused.
