Chapter 155 What I Made By My Own Hands
Chapter 155 What I Made By My Own Hands
The meeting room fell into an unusual silence. Many people looked at each other, but no one dared to speak.
Zhou Qing sighed helplessly, moved closer to Xiao Jingchen, and lowered her voice.
"Mr. Xiao, Secretary Song has finished explaining the event plan."
Xiao Jingchen snapped out of his daze and looked up at Song Nuan.
The latter quickly understood his meaning and briefly repeated what he had just introduced.
This time, Xiao Jingchen didn't lose focus. As usual, he briefly pointed out the problem and then adjourned the meeting.
The group left with varying expressions.
Xiao Jingchen sighed and rubbed his temples.
He didn't rest after returning to the villa last night. Lying in bed, he kept thinking about Lin Ran, her smiling face on the beach, her tears last night, and so on.
Even when Ye Chuchu approached, she didn't notice.
“Brother Jingchen.”
Ye Chuchu bit her lip and called out softly.
She had overheard someone outside the door saying that President Xiao seemed unsettled today. She hadn't believed it at first, but now that she saw it, she knew they were right.
The thought of Xiao Jingchen being preoccupied with worrying about Lin Ran made Ye Chuchu feel insanely jealous.
But she dared not show it at all. When she met Xiao Jingchen's gaze, she tried her best to squeeze out a hint of worry.
“Brother Jingchen, I haven’t seen my sister for a long time since the accident.”
"Can I go see her around noon today?"
"I also want to make her some soup myself, maybe that will help her recover faster."
Xiao Jingchen frowned at first, but seeing Ye Chuchu's sincere eyes, he couldn't bring himself to refuse. After hesitating for a long time, he nodded.
“I’ll go with you.”
"Okay, Brother Jingchen, let's go there soon so that Sister won't go hungry."
Ye Chuchu was overjoyed and chattered away to Xiao Jingchen before turning and leaving the office.
Since she had already said she would make the soup herself, Ye Chuchu wouldn't lie. She really went to the company cafeteria, found a soup pot, and started making soup.
She neither skimmed off the foam from the soup nor added scallions, ginger, and garlic to remove the fishy smell. Instead, she threw the pieces of meat, still covered in blood, into the jar, added a lot of side dishes that Lin Ran disliked, and finally added a large bouillon cube and chicken essence when it was ready to serve. It actually smelled quite convincing.
After filling the soup container, Ye Chuchu looked around warily. Once she was sure no one was there, she smiled, then ruthlessly cut her finger with a knife. Watching the bright red blood flow out, she smiled with satisfaction and took the soup upstairs.
Xiao Jingchen was still dealing with work, and Ye Chuchu didn't go over to cause trouble. Instead, she obediently sat down and waited.
"Did you make this soup?"
After finishing his work, Xiao Jingchen looked at the things in her hands with a surprised tone.
Ye Chuchu nodded, handed over the soup, and deliberately showed her finger that had been cut by the knife.
"How does it smell? I've been making it all morning."
"I wonder if my sister will like it."
Xiao Jingchen didn't even look at what the soup looked like; he just glanced at it casually, and then his brows furrowed.
What happened to your hand?
"oops."
Ye Chuchu seemed to have just noticed and hurriedly withdrew her hand.
"I probably cut myself while chopping the vegetables. It's all my fault for being so clumsy; I've hardly ever cooked at home."
Ye Chuchu spoke in a sweet and charming tone, and Xiao Jingchen smiled helplessly. He opened the first-aid kit in his office, took out a band-aid, and put it on her.
A hint of surprise flashed in Ye Chuchu's eyes.
She hadn't expected Xiao Jingchen to personally help her apply it, and her eyes even reddened with excitement.
"Be careful next time, let's go."
Even with just a short expression of concern, Ye Chuchu was still incredibly shy, nodding and following behind Xiao Jingchen.
The hospital was not far from the company, and the two quickly arrived at the ward.
Xiao Jingchen didn't even notice that his pace was getting faster and faster, leaving Ye Chuchu far behind.
Inside the ward, Lin Ran was reading a book that the nurse had found for her, word by word. When she heard the somewhat hurried footsteps outside, she subconsciously tensed up and her gaze shifted from the book to the doorway.
The next second, the door opened, and Xiao Jingchen appeared in the doorway.
Lin Ran's heart skipped a beat. She pursed her lips, about to speak, when she heard another voice that she was extremely familiar with and loathed.
"Sister, long time no see."
Ye Chuchu walked out from behind Xiao Jingchen, seemingly having run there, still slightly out of breath. Her face was covered in exquisite makeup, and the handprint she had left a few days ago to feign pitifulness had long since disappeared.
"Why are you here?"
Lin Ran gripped the blanket tightly and asked warily.
She was indeed pushed down by Jiang Rao, but Ye Chuchu must have also played a role in it; otherwise, how could Jiang Rao have found out about it?
Thinking of this, Lin Ran's gaze toward Ye Chuchu became even more hostile.
But Ye Chuchu seemed oblivious, standing smiling beside Xiao Jingchen.
"Sister, I came here with Brother Jingchen. We just got off work."
As the two locked eyes, Lin Ran sensed Ye Chuchu's provocation.
She clenched and unclenched her fists, remaining silent for a long time.
She said she missed you, so she came to visit.
Xiao Jingchen had been staring at Lin Ran ever since he entered. Now, he spoke slowly and deliberately, but his words seemed to have a hidden meaning.
"Sister, you don't want to see me, do you? Then I'll leave."
Before Lin Ran could speak, Ye Chuchu bit her lip and said with a wronged expression.
She said this, but showed no sign of leaving. Her feet seemed glued to the doorway, and she didn't move an inch.
Xiao Jingchen finally noticed the unusual atmosphere. He frowned slightly and was about to speak when his phone suddenly rang.
"I'm going to take a call."
He glanced at the caller ID, his eyes flickered, then turned and left the ward, only answering the call after he was a distance away.
Ye Chuchu watched the distance he had gone, her eyes darting around. As if she had thought of something, she closed the door and walked to Lin Ran's bedside, casually placing the soup she had been carrying all the way on the table.
"Lin Ran, how come you're so lucky? You survived falling off a cliff!"
Unlike Xiao Jingchen's voice just now, Ye Chuchu's eyes were full of ferocity. She stared intently at Lin Ran, as if she wanted to pounce on her and tear her to pieces the next second.
Lin Ran was equally defiant. She gave a cold laugh, her voice hoarse yet chillingly cold.
"If someone like you hasn't died, how could something happen to me?"
"Ye Chuchu, this matter is definitely related to you, isn't it?"
Lin Ran asked directly, her eyes fixed on Ye Chuchu, determined to see through her every expression.
