Chapter 96 The Status of the First Partner
Chapter 96 The Status of the First Partner
Ye didn't refute him and nodded in agreement. Yao was indeed the most magnanimous one. Although Lin Ni was closest to him, he would quietly make way for anyone who wanted to be intimate with her, sometimes even speaking up for them and creating opportunities for Feng. So, although Lin Ni was a bit too affectionate towards him, no one could get angry with him. If Lin Ni were clinging to him like that, he probably wouldn't have handled it as well as Yao.
Yan, standing behind Yao, nodded in agreement. It had to be said that Yao didn't actually need to eat as much prey as they did; his appetite wasn't noticeably different when they went hunting compared to when he was at home. Yet, he still went hunting with them, eating very little of the game himself. Sometimes, when it was inconvenient to start a fire, he simply ate only fruit; the game was either given to his hunting companions or taken home entirely. Yan even suspected that if he didn't want to make room for his other companions to spend time with Lin Ni, he could have survived on fruit alone at home.
Feng and Bai returned the following afternoon, bringing with them a two-meter-long fish. Lin Ni, seeing the fish, exclaimed happily, "I want to eat sashimi!"
As for what sashimi is, everyone can conclude from the name that it's raw fish. However, the preparation of sashimi is a bit too complicated. Lin Ni instructed them to separate the meat from the bones, and to make soup from the fish head and bones (originally, she wanted to make fish head with chopped chili, but she didn't know how, so she made soup instead, which was just enough for everyone to have a bowl). Then, she peeled the skin off the fish body, removed the bones, and sliced it into thin slices. She then found various fruits and cut them into shreds or made them into juice.
After everyone had been busy for a while, they sat down together. Lin Ni mixed all the different flavored shredded vegetables together, dipped the fish in the sauce, and ate it with the shredded vegetables. After taking a bite, she gave Feng and Bai a thumbs up: "So delicious!"
Everyone started eating (or rather, they started using their hands, since no one knew how to use chopsticks except for Yao and Feng). The dish received unanimous praise from all the men, without exception!
While eating, Yan said, "I didn't know fish was so delicious! We used to think it had too many bones, so we rarely caught it to eat!"
Ye nodded: "Actually, many things in the water are delicious, shrimp, crab, and shellfish are all very tasty!"
Lin Ni's eyes lit up: "Yes! Now that you mention it, I want to eat it too."
Bai pouted and said, "We can't go down there to catch those things! Besides, there's too little meat and too much shell. It's fine to cook for Lin, but if we eat them ourselves, we'll have to eat from morning till night."
Feng and Yan: Yes!
Linni turned to Ye and said, "Ye, I want to eat shrimp, crab, and shellfish tomorrow!"
Ye patted his chest: "No problem, I've got it covered!"
Bai smiled and said to Ye, "If you go and catch them, we can have some too!"
Ye said irritably, "You think you're so great, huh?"
Linni swallowed a mouthful of fish: "If it doesn't rain, let's go catch some together! I haven't been out all winter! Let's all go have some fun tomorrow."
The group recalled their autumn outing together, a time they had thoroughly enjoyed and relaxed, and all nodded in agreement. Yan hadn't been there that time due to a mission, so he was unaware of their past trip. Aside from Bai, the other men weren't particularly talkative, and Bai hadn't spent much time with Yan, so he hadn't heard them mention it. Hearing that they were going on a trip together filled him with anticipation.
After dinner, Linni went back to her room and took out her phone. She had originally planned to take some photos with it tomorrow, but she remembered taking some pictures of the Tiger Beast Tribe covered in snow during the winter and noticing how quickly the battery drained. Last time, it had 70% battery left, but the last time she used it, it was only at 50%. She wondered if it was because of the cold winter and the battery had died. She hesitated for a moment, then decided to leave it for now, since everyone had taken group photos before.
Lin Ni walked out of the room feeling a little down. Seeing everyone packing their things, she realized that her little family had actually all arrived! So Lin Ni went over and pulled Yao outside the door, asking softly in Mandarin, "Yao, should I tell everyone about the trip to Wanren Cliff?"
Yao nodded: "It's good to say it sooner rather than later. Also, ask Yan about the situation at Wanren Stone Cliff."
Lin Ni thought for a moment. Yan had participated in the coming-of-age ceremony at Wanren Stone Cliff before, so he should know something about the situation there. And Ye, he had mentioned that he lived in the Peacock Tribe at Wanren Stone Cliff when he was a child. She really should ask them about it. After thinking for a moment, she said in the common language of the Beastman Continent, "Yao, go find a very large leaf and bring it back. I need to write something."
"Okay." Yao turned and left.
Lin Ni entered the house and saw everyone silently watching her after they had finished packing. Bai's eyes clearly accused her of whispering with Yao behind their backs again. Lin Ni felt a little embarrassed, but forcibly ignored their gazes, found a few small twigs from the burnt fire that she could use as pens, and then sat down at her usual spot where she was eating.
Her seat was on the west side of the dining table, with her back to the door. She initially sat there because it was convenient for getting in and out of the room, but over time it became her designated seat. Night sat to her right, and to her left, directly opposite the dining room door, was Yao's usual seat. In Lin Ni's modern family, this was actually the head of the household's seat. The Tiger Beast Tribe didn't even have tables before, so they certainly didn't care about such things, but strangely, no one usually sat in this position. Sometimes Yao sat next to Lin Ni, sometimes he held her in his arms, leaving the seat empty. In any case, only Yao would sit in the head seat; no other male would. Yan usually sat at the lower end, which was the south side of the table, with his back to the door; Feng and Bai sat opposite Lin Ni, on the east side. Of course, Bai usually sat in Night's current seat during the winter—wasn't Night back? Everyone had already accepted that Yao was Lin Ni's favorite and closest person, with Night second. Overall, this little family was very harmonious (except for Bai and Feng, who were silently competing).
Lin Ni sat down and mentally organized what she wanted to say, unaware that the atmosphere in the restaurant was actually a bit strange. Bai suddenly said to Yan, "Yan, let's go organize the supplies in the cave."
Yan paused for a moment, met Bai's gaze, and then belatedly said, "Oh, okay!"
The two had just stood up when Lin Ni came to her senses and said, "Wait a minute, Bai, Yan, I have something I want to tell you."
Bai and Yan looked at Lin Ni and sat down again.
Feng pursed his lips: "Do you need me to go out?"
Linni paused, glanced at him several times, and then realized the atmosphere was a bit off. She formally said to the three of them, "No, I have something to tell you all."
