Chapter 58 Valley Crisis and a Glimmer of Hope
The deep roar that came from the depths of the valley was like muffled thunder exploding in everyone's hearts, instantly making them tense up again after they had just breathed a sigh of relief.
The valley was now filled with an increasingly heavy sense of mystery. The enormous statues on the surrounding mountain walls seemed to grow even more sinister and terrifying with the roar, their faces, some ferocious and some solemn, casting eerie shadows in the dim light. The runes on the ground, flickering with a faint light, seemed to pulse more rapidly due to this unknown threat, as if issuing a silent warning.
Trapped within the jade box's light, Huanmo was unable to move, but his gaze remained fixed on the depths of the valley, his heart filled with anxiety and guilt. He thought to himself, "It's all because I picked up this jade box that everyone is in such a dangerous situation. If anything were to happen to me, how could I face everyone?"
Wanru clung tightly to Huanmo, her small hands gripping his clothes tightly, her body trembling slightly. Hearing the roar, her face turned deathly pale, and the fear in her eyes intensified. She silently prayed, "What are we going to do? Why are there always so many dangers? Will we ever get out of here safely?"
The woman in black robes had a grim expression, gripping her black flute tightly in her hand and scanning her surroundings warily. "Don't panic, everyone. Stay calm. This valley is fraught with danger; anything could happen. We just need to be careful." Though she said this, she knew in her heart that the challenges ahead would likely be even more daunting.
The man in white held a jade flute, his brow furrowed. He kept a close eye on the movements deep within the valley while pondering a countermeasure. "That roar sounds quite imposing; the monster must be formidable. We need to devise a comprehensive plan," he whispered to the person beside him.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan leaned against each other, both trying to calm their flustered emotions and gathering their remaining spiritual energy, preparing to engage in battle at any moment. The white tiger lowered its body, letting out a deep roar, its blue eyes fixed on the front, ready to pounce on any potential enemy.
As the roar drew closer, a strong, foul wind swept over them, almost blinding them. Then, a colossal two-headed beast slowly emerged from the depths of the valley. Its body was covered in hard, black scales, each gleaming with a metallic sheen. Its two heads were raised high, thick saliva dripping from its gaping maws, and its four enormous eyes emitted a ferocious red light, radiating boundless killing intent.
"What...what kind of monster is this?!" Wanru's voice trembled with fright. She instinctively hid behind Huanmo, even though Huanmo was in dire straits himself.
Huanmo was also startled, but he forced himself to remain calm and comforted Wanru, saying, "Don't be afraid, we're all here. We'll definitely be able to deal with it."
Seeing this, the woman in black robes acted first. She raised her black flute to her lips, closed her eyes, and concentrated on playing. As she played, black notes shot towards the two-headed beast like arrows. As the notes approached the beast, they instantly transformed into black ropes, attempting to entangle its limbs and restrict its movements.
The man in white was not to be outdone. He quickly began to play his jade flute, the melodious sound echoing through the valley. Soft rays of light flew from the flute, enveloping the giant beast's head. The light seemed to have a soothing effect, attempting to weaken the beast's ferocity.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan joined forces to cast an attack spell, a dazzling beam of light shooting towards the giant beast's belly. They hoped to find the beast's weak point and deliver a heavy blow.
The white tiger seized the opportunity and pounced, opening its blood-red maw to bite one of the giant beast's heads.
However, the two-headed behemoth's strength far exceeded everyone's expectations. The moment the black-robed woman's black ropes wrapped around its limbs, it struggled violently, and the ropes snapped like fragile threads. The white-robed man's soft light enveloped its head, but it merely shook its head slightly to dispel the light. The green-robed man and Qing Wan's beams of attack struck its abdomen, only eliciting an angry roar, without causing any real harm. The white tiger bit its head, but it felt as if it had bitten into solid iron; not only did it fail to injure it, but it was also violently flung to the ground, letting out a painful howl.
Seeing this, everyone's hearts sank.
"This monster is too powerful, what should we do?" the man in the green robe shouted anxiously.
Huanmo watched from the sidelines, his heart burning with anxiety, yet utterly powerless. He hated himself for being trapped, unable to fight alongside everyone.
Just as everyone was beginning to despair, Wanru suddenly remembered something. She pulled a small sachet from her bosom, one she had worn since childhood, said to ward off evil and bring good fortune. Gritting her teeth, she ran towards the two-headed beast, shouting as she ran, "Maybe this will work!"
Everyone was shocked to see this.
"Wanru, come back! What are you doing!" Huanmo shouted loudly, his voice filled with endless anxiety and worry.
Wanru did not stop. She ran to a spot not far from the two-headed beast and threw the sachet at it with all her might.
The sachet traced an arc in the air and landed at the feet of the two-headed beast. In an instant, a soft golden light emanated from the sachet, rapidly spreading and enveloping the two-headed beast.
The two-headed behemoth seemed startled by the sudden light. It stopped attacking, its two heads shaking incessantly, and the ferocity in its eyes diminished slightly.
"What... what's going on?" Everyone was stunned, never expecting that Wanru's sachet could have such an effect.
Just as everyone was wondering, an aged voice came from within the golden light: "This is a trace of spiritual energy left by an ancient artifact, which can temporarily suppress this two-headed beast. But time is limited, and you need to find the real ancient artifact as soon as possible to completely resolve the crisis."
Upon hearing this, a glimmer of hope rekindled in everyone's hearts.
"But where exactly is the ancient artifact?" the woman in black robes asked anxiously.
The aged voice continued, "Follow the valley to the end, where there is a clear spring, and beside the spring is a cave. The divine artifact may be inside. But the journey will be fraught with difficulties and dangers, so please proceed with caution."
After saying that, the golden light gradually dissipated, and the two-headed behemoth recovered from its brief astonishment, letting out another low roar as it prepared to launch another attack.
"Hurry up!" Huanmo shouted.
Without daring to delay, the group hurriedly ran towards the end of the valley. As they ran, they kept looking back at the two-headed beast, feeling both relieved and worried. They were relieved that Wanru's sachet had temporarily averted the crisis, but worried about how many more dangers awaited them, whether there really was an ancient artifact in the cave, and whether they could successfully rescue Huanmo and find a true way out.
