Chapter 200 The Mysterious Grand Hall
Chapter 200 The Mysterious Grand Hall
A field of golden poplars comes into view, and as you walk through the forest path, the clear lake water in front of you drives away the heat that is pressing down on you.
Mu Qingfeng couldn't help but squat down and scoop up a handful of water, but instead of immediately using the cool lake water to soothe her dry, hot skin, she turned around and, taking advantage of the person behind her being off guard, splashed the water on them.
"You better not beg for mercy later!"
Ji Zhongxuan wiped the water droplets from his face, raised an eyebrow, shifted his body, reached out and grabbed the back of his mischievous junior sister's collar, flicking her forehead.
Amidst the background sounds of "Good senior brother, I really know I was wrong," Luo Dalun, who didn't feel old at all, suddenly felt a sense of "youth is so wonderful" and a sense of vicissitude.
"Alright, you two stop fooling around..." Before Fei Xi could finish speaking, she was splashed with water in her face.
She didn't care who did it, and with a smile she turned around and plucked two leaves from the evergreen plant, giving each person a handful of leaf water, ensuring everyone got a share.
When it came time to get down to business, all three of them looked like drowned rats pulled from the water, completely soaked.
Luo Dalun, who had been watching from the sidelines to avoid being dragged into the mess, returned and, upon seeing the three of them, awkwardly turned away and coughed.
“Xiao Xi, this oasis is less than ten acres, and you can see the whole thing at a glance. I’ve looked around and haven’t seen any buildings that look like a goddess temple.”
Wiping the water from her clothes, Fei Xi pointed to an archway across the lake:
"Grandpa Luo, it's right there!"
"Senior sister, there's nothing there."
"Follow me."
Fei Xi led the way, and the midday sun quickly dried the clothes. Pushing aside the bushes blocking the way, a cobblestone path appeared before her.
"The goddess of fertility worshipped in the Kingdom of Us is different from that of other small western countries. They believe that everything a person has is a gift from Mother Earth, who provides all the food and water that people need. She is the most worthy deity for people to respect. Their goddess of fertility is actually Mother Earth, Noss."
As they passed through the white stone archway, Fei Xi pointed to the center of the courtyard, where hundreds of flowers bloomed, as she spoke:
"The temple of the goddess is not on the ground, but behind that statue."
In the center of the courtyard stands a statue of a goddess wearing a flower wreath, pointed ears, and a long robe.
The group glanced at it but didn't look at it much longer; they were more curious about where the Goddess Temple was.
Fei Xi walked to the statue, placed her left hand on her chest, and touched the left foot that was exposed under the goddess's robe with her right hand, and bowed.
The three people who were looking for the entrance to the goddess temple behind the goddess statue were surprised to find that the once smooth stone ground now revealed an entrance that was nearly ten feet long and wide.
Below the entrance is a wide white stone staircase, each step nearly three feet wide.
Fei Xi walked down and looked around. The stone steps were very long and seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see.
The stone staircase was not dark despite being underground; on the contrary, it was as bright as day. Strangely, Fei Xi could not see any light source on either side of the walls.
She walked at the front, side by side with Ji Zhongxuan, while Mu Qingfeng and Luo Dalun walked behind, one in front of the other.
The four of them walked for the time it takes for an incense stick to burn before reaching the end, where they found another white stone archway.
Behind the white stone archway, at the end of the heavy stone path, stands a magnificent and tall main hall, with a side hall on each side.
The main hall's front porch is lined with towering stone pillars carved with exquisite patterns. The entire main hall is solemn and majestic, and it would be quite difficult to build such a temple on the ground, let alone underground.
Fei Xi led her people to the main hall, and upon closer inspection, she realized that the hall was so tall that it seemed impossible to see the top even when she looked up.
What Fei Xi found strange was that Boss Qiu and Yu Heng should both have found a way to get in. But the place was so quiet you could hear a pin drop, as if no one else had come to visit except for the four of them.
Suppressing her doubts, Fei Xi stepped into the main hall.
The main hall was completely empty, unlike the brightly lit exterior where it was daytime. It was eerily dark and gloomy, as if the thick night had been suppressed into a deep blue loneliness, so cold it sent a phantom pain through one's heart, as if being brutally squeezed.
“Ah! It’s so heavy!”
Hearing her junior sister's cry of pain, Fei Xi turned around in confusion.
But the junior sister looked as if she were carrying a hundred pounds of weight, her body hunched over, and cold sweat streaming down her face.
Not only the junior sister, but Grandpa Luo had also sat down on the ground, using his inner energy to defend against something.
Although Junior Brother Ji was standing just like her, his fists were clenched and his lips were bluish-purple, clearly indicating that he had also encountered something.
"What's wrong with you? Xiaofeng, you look unwell, where does it hurt?"
"Senior sister, can't you feel it? It's so heavy, my body suddenly feels so heavy, I'm... I'm about to run out of strength..."
As soon as she finished speaking, Mu Qingfeng collapsed to the ground, unable to support herself any longer.
Luo Dalun was still struggling to stay upright, unable to utter a single word, but his condition also looked very bad.
"Senior Sister, something's wrong here. There's a force trying to push us to the ground." Although Ji Zhongxuan was still standing, her face was getting increasingly pale, and veins were starting to bulge on her arms.
Fei Xi looked puzzled. If she didn't know the three people in front of her well, she would know that they wouldn't joke about serious matters.
She might think that the three of them were deliberately putting on an act to deceive her.
Seeing her junior sister collapse to the ground, Fei Xi stepped forward to try and help her up. But no matter how hard Fei Xi tried, her junior sister couldn't get up.
"This is so strange! Xiao Feng, wait a minute. Junior Brother Ji, I don't feel anything at all. If it's medicine or a trap, why are only you affected, while I'm completely unharmed?"
"Princess Shouguang, are you telling the truth?"
The sudden sound from the main hall startled everyone.
Fei Xi immediately recognized the voice as that of Lord Yu Heng.
Looking in the direction of the sound, she discovered two humanoid shadows crouching in the dark corner on her left.
The main hall was poorly lit, and the two remained silent, so Fei Xi and her group didn't notice them at all after entering the hall.
"Lord Yu, Lord Dongfang, you're here too?"
“Miss Fei, do you really not feel anything? As soon as Lord Yu and I came in, just as Young Master Ji said, it felt like an invisible giant hand pressed us to the ground. Now, let alone getting up, we can't even lift a finger.”
"I told you not to waste your energy! Princess, this hall is too eerie. You don't know martial arts. If someone like you appears now, seemingly unharmed but plotting against you, we might be unable to move and save you." Another voice came from the right corner of the hall.
Fei Xi looked closely and saw five shadows lurking in the right corner as well.
"Oh, what brilliant idea does Boss Qiu have?" She naturally recognized the voice as belonging to that fat bastard. The other party's skin was truly thick; he had almost been killed by Junior Brother Ji after ambushing her, yet he still dared to shamelessly ask her for cooperation.
"I wouldn't call it insightful, but I would appreciate it if Your Highness could examine this strange hall and see if you could find out why we were pinned to the ground."
