Chapter 61 Stealing Credit
Chapter 61 Stealing Credit
Su Peixue ran neither fast nor slow.
She had a good rhythm, her steps were small but each step landed steadily, and her breathing was very even.
The military training uniform she wore couldn't conceal her stunning figure at all; the sleeves were rolled up twice, revealing a section of her wrists. Her hair was tied in a low ponytail, swaying behind her as she ran.
Song Yin ran to her left, her high ponytail swinging even more vigorously than Su Peixue's, the bright orange hair tie shimmering in the sunlight. She was in good physical condition, able to talk while running.
"Xuexue, you're such a fitness addict, how come you're so physically fit?"
"Yes, I used to work part-time unloading goods at a courier transfer station."
Su Peixue said, her breathing steady.
The hourly wage at the transfer station is 10 yuan, and it can reach 11 yuan if you work all night. Before meeting Lin Ran, Su Peixue would work part-time every weekend.
Song Yin was taken aback.
"Did I hear that right? Xuexue, are you kidding me?"
She always thought Su Peixue was a rich girl, otherwise why would she donate so much money all at once?
But now, listening to her talk, it seems like she's struggling financially?
This left Song Yin somewhat stunned, causing her to lose her footing slightly.
She suddenly realized that her goal of becoming an internet celebrity was completely incomparable to Su Peixue's.
Song Yin couldn't deny that what she wanted was fame and money. She loved the feeling of being liked, commented on, and praised by countless people, and she could also earn a lot of money.
But it's absolutely impossible for her to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars when she herself isn't wealthy enough.
She simply couldn't imagine how Su Peixue, this seemingly delicate girl, could work at the most arduous express delivery transfer station.
"Why did it slow down all of a sudden?"
Su Peixue patted Song Yin, who was lost in thought. The latter was surprised to find that his gaze towards Su Peixue now held a hint of admiration.
Zhao Yining ran behind Su Peixue on the right. She was a little chubby, and the baby fat on her cheeks jiggled with the rhythm of her running.
Tan Shuang ran alongside Zhao Yining, her face still expressionless, showing no signs of strain.
Several boys had somehow ended up to Su Peixue's right. Song Yin recognized them; they were probably from the same class, but she couldn't quite place their names.
They ran at a similar pace to Su Peixue, neither fast nor slow, just alongside her.
Not just these few, but more than a dozen boys gathered around Su Peixue, surrounding her in a loose circle.
Some ran a little ahead, some ran a little behind, but none of them went far, like a bunch of iron filings attracted by a magnet.
"Depend on."
Song Yin said something in a low voice.
She got it.
These boys weren't unable to run; they were deliberately running next to Su Peixue. They would occasionally strike a pose, pulling their hair back, and after doing so, they would pretend to casually glance at Su Peixue to see if the girl had noticed them.
On the distant mountains.
The instructors hadn't put their binoculars down yet.
"What's going on with this class?" An instructor pointed his camera in Su Peixue's direction.
Zhao Qian also saw it. Unlike his own class, it was formed by Lin Ran's command and formation, with some breaking the wind, some supporting people, and some controlling the rhythm. The whole formation was as compact as a Christmas tree.
Su Peixue's class had no commander, no formation, no windbreaks, nothing at all.
But the formation didn't break down.
"The girl in the middle," another instructor adjusted the focus of his binoculars. "All the boys are running around her."
"They ran as fast as she ran?"
"Yes. They slow down when she's slow, and they speed up when she's fast. They've been following her the whole way."
In the video, a girl with a low ponytail runs at a steady pace, surrounded by a dozen or so boys, like planets orbiting a star.
The instructors all laughed.
"This girl is amazing. She can keep an entire class together without doing anything."
"This class should be second in the group standings; the time difference shouldn't be too big."
No one can deny that good looks
Down the hillside, on the asphalt road.
Wang Haochen walked very fast, and he had already overtaken several groups of people, leaving the sparse line in front of him behind one after another.
The finish line is ahead.
The banner at the base entrance was already visible, and several instructors stood there holding rosters and stopwatches. The stopwatch beeped as Wang Haochen crossed the finish line.
"name."
"Wang Haochen, Computer Science Class 2"
The instructor put a checkmark on the roster.
"seventeenth."
Wang Haochen, bent over and supporting himself on his knees, panting, grinned when he heard the number.
He caught his breath for a while before straightening up, walking to the shade of a tree by the roadside, and unscrewing a bottle of water to pour over his head. The water flowed over his forehead, washing away the hairspray in his hair, and trickled down his cheeks.
People arrived one after another, first a few who ran fast, then groups of two or three in the middle, and finally the main group.
When the students from Computer Science Class 2 arrived, their formation was still tight. Yao Ziwen was covered in sweat, his camouflage uniform soaked through. Li Yifan was supporting Wei Min, whose complexion was much better than on the way there.
Lin Ran walked at the very back. He made sure that no one in the class had fallen behind before crossing the finish line.
Wang Haochen stood up from under the shade of the tree and walked among his classmates.
"You all worked hard. Although you didn't make it into the top twenty, it's okay." He clapped his hands, his voice loud, "As the class monitor, I'm the only one from our class to make it into the top twenty. I've brought honor to our class!"
Yao Ziwen was drinking water with his head tilted back. Upon hearing this, he took the bottle away from his mouth.
"What glory have you brought? You ran away all by yourself."
"My making it into the top 20 means that someone from our class is in the top 20. It's about collective honor, you understand?"
Li Yifan draped the towel over his shoulder. "Collective honor? Did you even glance back while you were running?"
Wang Haochen frowned: "I run fast to bring glory to the class. It's your problem if you run slowly; you can't deny my contribution just because I run fast!"
Everyone walked towards the open space at the base entrance. The open space was already full of people, and the squads had rearranged their formations, crooked and uneven.
The sun was scorching the ground, and the instructors stood at the front of the line, holding rosters and report cards.
Zhao Qian walked to the front of Computer Class 2, the paper in his hand rustling in the wind.
He glanced down at the numbers on the paper, his gaze sweeping across the faces of the entire class.
"The best individual result in our class is Wang Haochen, seventeenth place."
Wang Haochen's lips curled up. Several classmates around him glanced at him, but no one said a word.
"Team results." Zhao Qian turned a page. "Our class got first place in team results."
The crowd fell silent for a moment, then Yao Ziwen yelled, Li Yifan threw the towel into the air, and several girls in the back row jumped together, causing the whole class to erupt in cheers.
Wang Haochen stood at the front of the crowd, his expression changing several times.
He paused for a moment, then his eyes lit up.
Doesn't that mean I have double privileges?!
Wang Haochen took a step forward, turned around to face the whole class, raised his hands and pressed them down to signal everyone to be quiet.
"Classmates! Listen to me!" His voice broke through the noise. "As the class monitor, leading the class to first place in the team competition is my responsibility! It's also my honor! Our class..."
"What's it to you?" Yao Ziwen's voice came from the crowd, interrupting him.
